Opportunities for RBC students
At RBC, we ensure all our students have access to a wide聽range of opportunities, practising聽skills聽which are essential to a聽portfolio career. By working聽with the L&P Department, you will develop employability skills such as聽communication, confidence, self-expression and creativity alongside understanding your own musicality and how to apply it in education and community contexts.
The L&P activity at RBC is completely integrated with undergraduate and postgraduate courses. This means that students are able to have real-world opportunities to practice and embed the skills learnt on the course in supportive professional environments. Students work alongside RBC's world class professional musicians in a range of contexts聽such as聽side-by-side with young musicians, workshop leading, teaching, facilitating community participation, mentoring, interactive performing and multidisciplinary arts projects.
Our connections with music education and community partners ensures that students聽network with professional organisations, increasing their chances of future employment.
In the final year of undergraduate studies, all students undertake a self-defined project. Many students opt for this to be an education or community engagement placement or programme. The L&P department supports聽students to聽prepare and deliver these projects. Students use this opportunity to build networks and develop their ideas聽to聽establish themselves in聽their early career.聽
Unique within UK conservatoires is our Teaching Fellow in Professional Development & Outreach. This staff member is uniquely placed to help students connect the work they do within education and community settings to the professional world, helping them to consider ways in which they can maximise their potential across a broad spectrum of work.
Graduates of RBC who have engaged with the Learning and Participation Department聽are highly sought after and employable as teachers, workshop leaders and community musicians.聽
