Mindful Construal Diary: Developing and testing a kinder and self-distant mindful based intervention for weight loss and weight maintenance
Research on the effectiveness of mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) has shown significant improvements in weight loss and psychological health. Many MBIs often require a considerable amount of time, motivation and practice. However, this may be problematic as people may not have the appropriate means to commit to such an extensive mindful intervention; therefore making it less suitable for mainstream lifestyles. The use of a recently emerged MBI, namely Mindful Construal Diaries (MCD), has shown similar results in weight loss and improved psychological health as extensive mindful-meditation practices.
The aim of his PhD is to build upon the existing MCD through the concepts of self-distancing and self-kindness, and use it as a tool to improve eating behaviours and promote weight loss as well as psychological well-being. The present research will utilize self-report methods, experiments and randomized control trials (RCT) in order to gain a fuller understanding on the effectiveness and mechanisms behind the intervention.
