RBC Sinfonietta showcase an exciting selection of works for chamber ensemble beginning with Grace Williams鈥檚 Suite for Nine Instruments.聽 Driving rhythms and ostinatos contrast with an evocative slow movement in this favoured work of the self-critical composer who wrote that it was 鈥渕ore satisfying than anything else I鈥檝e done鈥�.聽 Wagner鈥檚 intensely personal love song to his wife is full of tenderness, passion and reflections of nature.聽 It was first played on Christmas morning 1870 in the hall of the Wagners鈥� home.
Ibert鈥檚 Divertissement sparkles with playful energy in seven tongue-in-cheek movements that include Cort猫ge (featuring Mendelssohn鈥檚 鈥榃edding March鈥�), a soupy Viennese waltz, and cartoon-crazy finale.聽 Finally, the Chamber Concerto by RBC鈥檚 own award-winning Lecturer in Composition, Howard Skempton, rounds off an evening of evocative soundscapes.
