BMus Flautist Maia Roberts has been honoured with the Wind Award from the Worshipful Company of Musicians, which will help her to grow as a professional musician.
The Worshipful Company of Musicians dates to the Middle Ages and awards medals, prizes and scholarships to support early career musicians. Through the award, which is a 拢10,000 scholarship, Maia鈥檚 talents have been recognised and she will be able to continue with her PgCert at RBC in September.
The Worshipful Company of Musicians is the only City of London Livery Company dedicated to the performing arts and provides outreach opportunities that support young musicians at the start of their professional careers. These concerts aim to bring live performances to diverse audiences.
Maia was one of two students who were nominated for the award by RBC. Following her nomination, the flautist took part in competitive auditions at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where she won the Wind Category, which also included Brass.
As an award winner, Maia has been selected for the Musician鈥檚 Company鈥檚 Young Artists鈥� Programme, which will provide performance and mentorship opportunities. The Programme 鈥渘urtures outstanding talent during the vital first five years of their musical careers, and enlists their talents to promote positive social, emotional and educational change through participation work in the wider community鈥�.
Maia said: 鈥淚 am honoured to have received support from the Worshipful Company of Musicians, and I am excited for the unique opportunities that will be available to me to help me pursue my career.鈥�
